Talk about a dream come true-if Donald Trump and his politics team are nimble and thinking about a master play to lock down the black vote, they will get no better chance than the opportunity to lead a group of African American, Latino and women investors in a bid for the minority stake of Paramount Studios which Viacom has put up for bids.
MotleyFool.com describes the opportunity, as follows:
Wanna buy into a top-shelf Hollywood movie studio?
Well, if you've got a few million dollars lying around, now's your chance.
Viacom (NASDAQ:VIA) (NASDAQ:VIAB) announced that it has begun the process to, in its words, "explore opportunities for a significant strategic minority equity investment" in its film studio, Paramount Pictures.
** ** **
[The potential divestment] does illustrate Viacom's struggles in the film sphere, however.
The studio has been a laggard compared to its peers, releasing exactly none of the top 10 grossing movies of 2015.
Its best performer -- the overly punctuated Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation -- clocked in at no. 11, and had a domestic gross less than one-fourth the take of that year's leader, the Walt Disney release Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
2016 doesn't look on track to be any different.
So far this year, Paramount has but one release in the top 10, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. And its box office take wasn't much higher than its production budget.
Tonight, Hollywood will showcase its retinue of nominees for what has been categorized as “The White Oscars.”
The lack of any black Oscar nominees has enraged many black artists including writers, directors, actors and producers, many of whom probably would be excited about an opportunity to participate financially with an investment group which could buy the minority stake in Paramount.
That would give them an opportunity to get their work into mainstream distribution, and to compete against the very Hollywood moguls who have shut them out of Oscars consideration.
Trump easily could get some of his uber rich friends and investor associates to put up mega million dollar blocks of capital in cash which along with a block of capital from him personally would make the effort a success.
Indeed, this is the kind of venture which should attract the interest of Oprah Winfrey, a multi-billionaire African American female media mogul, and other wealthy media moguls and media investors of color worldwide.
This is a move for which Trump would have no competition whatsoever from Democrats, because no Democratic Administration has ever made a group of blacks rich; and, unless lightning strikes another billionaire media mogul in the GOP before Trump makes his move, there will be little competition from the GOP.
Trump would get a torrent of publicity, as well as favorable media coverage in the mainstream press, financial, business and political media, and would get tremendous coverage in the black media.
And, talk about taking the black vote-if Trump makes the move, and more importantly, pulls it off with a successful bid by the end of the summer, Trump easily will take 90% or more of the black vote which along with the base he has developed, will barrel him into The White House.
